Judith Sims

Judith Sims has been a resident artist at the Malonga Center, formerly the Alice Arts Center, since 1994.

She served as the center’s Special Events Coordinator and also as one of the center’s theatre house and stage managers. In the 1970’s while acting as a full-time dance and ethnic arts specialist with the City of Oakland’s dance and music department, she taught in the Oakland public schools, recreation centers, and preschools.

Judith has performed as a dancer and actress on both stage and screen and has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1997. As a dance videographer since the late 1990’s she was part of the LADD project, a national initiative to preserve America’s dance funded by the Pew Charitable Trust to improve and preserve dance documentation in the San Francisco Bay Area, the second largest dance community in the U.S.

She continues to assist in preserving and enhancing the rich multi-cultural structure that exists in Oakland through dance instruction and film documentation.
